We are just a month away from the grand launch of weekly worship at Pecan Street Mission! It has been a fantastic preview season so far and we’ve come a long way this fall! (By the way, if you haven’t yet attended a preview worship, there’s one more chance on Sunday, November 11). If you’ve been in Asbury Hall recently, you may have noticed we’ve begun to transform the area into a modern worship space. Thanks to a labor of love with reclaimed pallets, Edison bulbs, Ikea lamps, new rugs and curtains — when you walk into Asbury Hall at 10:45 a.m. on a Sunday morning, it looks and feels like sacred space. Our extremely gifted new worship leader, Sean Henderson, has been hard at work pulling together a talented group of musicians and tech experts who are offering their gifts to help lead this new community in worship. Delicious breakfast snacks show up to fill the hospitality table each morning, thanks to generous gifts from the community. So much has gone into preparing the space for people to encounter the God who knows and loves them.
As we near launch, here’s how you can help!
Please continue to cover this entire venture in prayer over this next month. Pray for those planning and leading worship, pray for those setting up and preparing the space, pray for the community who will worship together throughout launch in December, pray for the people who will walk through these doors for the first time or the first time in a long time. Pray that God might already be at work preparing their hearts, so that in this space and among this community, they may come to know the deep and abiding love in God made real in their lives.
Can you help prep breakfast snacks? Muffins, fruit, casseroles, pastries, juice, and anything else that tastes delicious! If you would be willing to help prepare the hospitality table one week during launch in December, please send me an email ([email protected]) or give me a call (214-264-8303). We want to extend radical hospitality in simple ways like delicious food!
Invite and Attend
At the end of the day, it’s all about people. We are doing this holy work so the 59% of people across our community who are not meaningfully connected to a community of faith might come to find a home in God’s love through Pecan Street Mission. So pick up one (or more!) of the new invite cards at any of the welcome desks on Sunday morning, or stop by the office during the week, and make a personal invitation. God intends to use YOU to be the hands and feet of Jesus, to invite the disconnected to find a home here. You know the easiest way to invite someone to church for the first time? Invite them to come with you! Say, “Hey, I’m going to worship on December 2nd at the launch of Pecan Street Mission. Would you come with me?” It’s just that simple. God wants to move through you to invite someone into life-giving love.
As we continue on this exciting journey together, may we root deep down in the love of God and let God’s love pour out of us into the world. Love deeply, Live differently.
