Chrismon Tree

The Seasons of Advent and Christmas invite a host of beautiful decorations into the worship space of the church. Chrismon trees have become popular in churches, especially when worshippers understand that Chrismons are the most significant part of such a tree. Chrismons (which many folks understand to mean Christ monograms) are decorations that symbolize a variety of theological and biblical concepts. The decorations are usually constructed of white ribbons, gold beads, glitter, and even Styrofoam and felt.

In the picture, you will see our Chrismon tree on the right. At the top left, you can see a Chrismon which includes the lamb, symbolizing Christ as the sacrificial lamb of peace and carrying the banner of victory. The lamb is standing inside a circle which represents eternal life. The next two pictures show a cross with the Α, or alpha, symbolizing that Christ Jesus is the beginning, followed by a cross with the Ω, or omega, symbolizing that he is also the end of all things. You are invited to seek out other Chrismons on the tree and determine what they symbolize as well!
